This is the first book in the Seaward Isle Saga, a trilogy with a bonus.  In the first  book, you'll meet Alex, a young girl, whose parents were killed when a King attacked them in order to learn how to use a wizard in battle.  Alex vows revenge on the wizard, but at age four, there's little she can do until she grows up.  She devotes her life and training to become a soldier to extract her revenge.  Her life is tumultuous, not only is she shuffled from one foster parent to another, but she lives on Seaward Isle, a mysterious island lost in time and space where all of the residents are time travelers, trapped on the island.  One day, Alex will cross paths with the wizard, but for now, she learns to survive.  "Tangled Omens" is the second book in the series and deals with Alex's development as a soldier after she has a chance encounter with the pirate spy known only as the Horseman.  The third book, "Blood Mission" begins Alex's experience with the Elves when her distant cousin, Prince Darin of the Water Elves, is poisoned by his own general.  A bonus book, "The Island Game" provides a brief explanation of Seaward Isle from the point of view of a modern day journalist, trapped on the island.
